Reverse Counting

An alternate title for this chapter might well have been 'Reversing The Order Of Cards', since this description also serves to express the basic ideas back of these card effects. Off hand, it might be imagined that little in the way of magic could be achieved by simply reversing the order of a grouping of cards. However, as will be shown, this would be a serious misconception for some of the most elegant card effects are brought by simple reversal of a group of cards at some critical stage of a card routine.

In all cases, a variant of the main effect is outlined that may be more appealing to some performers than the main presentation.

The first card trick, 'Name the Card', the reversing of the cards takes place quite openly. However, the importance of the reversing is not remotely suspected by the audience since the performer does the reversing under the pretense of illustrating to the participating
spectators how they are to spell out their names with cards when their turn comes.
